MONTPELIER — The T.W. Wood Gallery and Arts Center is homeless, at least for now.
In December, the gallery’s lease with Vermont College of Fine Arts expired and was not renewed. As gallery Executive Director Joyce Mandeville said: “We were renters and the college needed the space.”
But the situation is not a contentious one. She said the college was gracious and gave gallery staffers ample notice that they would need to move. The gallery had been in that space since 1987.
When the news about the lease first became public, Mandeville said, some people were shocked and told her, “This is terrible.”
But it’s not terrible, she said. In fact, it could turn out to be a really positive thing for the gallery and the community.
