Here's some random facts from my e-mail that I've been meaning to post:
First, about former U-32 golfer and girls soccer goalie, Kim Wong:
Kimberly Wong claimed medalist credit for the 2007 DeBary Intercollegiate (DeBARY, Fla. - Oct. 29, 2007)
Freshman Kimberly Wong continued to do what she does best over the weekend as she fired a two-day total of 146 (75 / 71) to earn top honors for the event. Wong’s 2-over par score was one shot better than Winthrop’s Jutta Degerman who was tied for the lead after the first round on Sunday. B-CU led by four strokes over nearby Stetson University after Sunday’s event, thanks in part to the play of Dowell and Wong. For B-CU, they have now won three tournaments in the fall season, and look to make it one of the best fall campaigns in school history when they travel to Stetson for a tournament in the coming weeks. For more information on Bethune-Cookman women’s golf, please contact the B-CU Office of Sports Information at (386) 481-2206. Back here in central Vermont, Montpelier is not the only school making the coaching news. Harwood recently hired Taggert Haslam, who also coaches track & field, as its new varsity girls basketball coach, replacing Travis Paquet, who went to Montpelier to become the girls JV coach. The Highlander girls varsity ice hockey team also has a new coach in Mike Martini, replacing Nate Isham. And, sorry Justin St. Louis and those of Thunder Road fame who thought I should drive a Junkyard Warrior in the Media Race this summer... ...I'm going to be one of 2 13th players for the Vermont Frost Heaves' Fan Fest on Saturday at the Aud in Barre. I'm a little more at home on a basketball court than I am at the high banks in Barre Town. I know there are a ton of soccer championships and a very important football semifinal happenining on Saturday, but there is tons of good stuff happening at the Aud for those of you who, like me, have a tremendous itch to see some basketball. As always, keep me posted on the former local high school athletes who are doing well in the collegiate ranks. --Anna Grearson
