BENNINGTON — The jury in the manslaughter trial of a Vermont man charged with causing the death of his infant son says it is deadlocked, but is reconvening in an attempt to reach a verdict.
Twenty-eight-year-old Russ Van Vleck of Arlington has pleaded not guilty in the Oct. 3, 2009 death of his son, Colin. The state medical examiner told police he believes the 5-week-old suffered head trauma.
Jurors got the case at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. They announced they were deadlocked at 7:25 p.m., but agreed to reconvene Wednesday to hear playback of recorded testimony.
Vleck’s lawyers suggest the baby died from injuries received at birth.
