The Feminine Tone’s spring concerts, entitled “Seasons of Change,” celebrate the wonderful and inevitable transformations in life and in nature.
On Saturday April 25th at 7:00 P.M. at the Northern Universalist Chapel in Woodstock, VT and on Sunday April 26th at 4:00 P.M. at the Springfield Congregational Church the chorus, led by artistic director Maricel Lucero, will celebrate the manifestations of change as expressed in past and contemporary multi-cultural musical traditions.
The chorus will indulge in polyphonic fun with a set of 16th century European madrigals including the French “Il est bel et bon,” and the German “Lenz Kommt Herbei,” performed in the original languages. Bach’s 2nd English Suite will be interpreted vocally with a modern twist.
The chorus will celebrate traditional music with the Appalachian folk song, “Ten Thousand Miles.” Japanese culture will be honored in “Sakura Sakura,” a challenging piece featuring discordant harmony and Japanese haikus. Also presented will be contemporary Latin-American a cappella pieces which paint colorful pictures and convey unlimited passion.
With support from a generous Choral Arts Foundation grant, the Feminine Tone is thrilled to have a Vermont Symphony Orchestra string quartet accompanying Vermont composer Gwyneth Walker’s beautiful “Crossing the Bar,” inspired by a Tennyson poem as well as her whimsical “Bones Be Good,” based on a poem by Lucille Clifton. Contemporary musical settings of Emily Dickinson and Elizabeth Barrett Browning poems will be included in the program. The chorus also welcomes pianist Kathi Tarrant-Tafuto of Woodstock, VT.
The Feminine Tone is gearing up for a fourth trip to Cuba in November of this year, to again participate in Santiago’s international choral festival. The chorus will again be bringing tons of humanitarian aid to be distributed to the neediest areas of the island. If you have any questions about the trip or would like to make donations to the cause, please call Maricel at (802) 885-1590.
Tickets for “Seasons of Change” are $12.00 for adults, with students/seniors paying $6.00, and a family rate of $25.00. Advance tickets (adults $10.00 and students/seniors $5.00) are available at the Springfield Pharmacy, Riverside Pet Care in Ludlow, VT, the Norwich Bookstore, Yankee Bookshop in Woodstock, and Misty Valley Books in Chester, VT.
