Ludlow Streetscapes, a community organization working to beautify Ludlow, has been awarded a grant to repair and improve The Kesman Bicentennial Memorial Park, at the corner of Main and Depot. A portion of the grant will be used to repair the wooden planters, restore and improve the plantings, and remove overgrown bushes. The remaining portion of the grant will be used to help Streetscapes pay for the repair and upgrade of the current paving at the park. We will be trying the raise the balance of the funds needed for the paving at our upcoming “Throwdown at the Charity Hoedown” fundraiser this October 10, under the tent at the Pot Belly Pub said Liz Crowley, President of Ludlow Streetscapes.
Over the past several years, Streetscapes has been engaged in improving the public spaces that people like to use in the downtown section. So far, with the help of community residents, this group has planted trees around town, improved the lighting along Main Street, placed new benches and trash cans, refurbished the Welcome to Ludlow signs and installed lamp posts, lights and hanging baskets on the bridges and at The Mill. The new paved sidewalk and underground-wired lamp posts on Main Street at The Mill was the latest contribution that Streetscapes made to the beautification of downtown Ludlow. THESE IMPROVEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE ENTIRELY WITH FUNDS RAISED FROM PRIVATE DONORS. Now, the improvement of Kesman Bicentennial Memorial Park is the next major project, and Streetscapes is grateful to the Town for supporting its efforts through this grant.
