CHESTER – According to Chester Town Manager, David Pisha the Vermont Agency of Transportation (Vtrans) has announced the dates for the closure and replacement of two bridges in Chester on Route 103 South, also known as Main St.
Bridge No. 9 the closer of the two bridges to the village center will be closed from May 16 to July, 2011 and Bridge No. 8, a couple of a bit further down the road will be closed from June 19 to July 17, 2011. School buses will be routed from Grafton St. to River St. around Bridge No. 9. As for Bridge No. 8, the thought is that school will be out by that date – if there aren’t too many snow days.
Once both bridges are closed, cars and light trucks will be directed to use the Green Mountain Turnpike from its intersection with Route 11 to its end, a couple of miles out of the village. Plans for redirecting the large number of 18-wheel trucks that use Route 106 have not been announced.
Pisha said that while the plans in an engineering sense are completed the plans about who is going to do what remain unformed. Vtrans wrote it was possible that the project could be put off until 2012 if the logistical issues cannnot be resolved in time.
