Thanksgiving marks the unofficial start of the ski and snowboard season all around New England, and Okemo Mountain Resort is ready to welcome guests for a holiday weekend to remember.
Okemo’s snowmaking team is taking advantage of every opportunity to make snow in preparation for opening day. Mother Nature thwarted Okemo’s plans to open on Nov. 19, as originally planned, with warm temperatures that made it impossible to make snow. But more seasonal temperatures have finally arrived and Okemo plans to open as soon as possible – prior to Thanksgiving if all goes as planned. Okemo typically starts the season with advanced terrain located at the top of the mountain.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Okemo plans to offer Thanksgiving Weekend visitors plenty of fun and adventure off the slopes. Okemo’s Adventure Zone will be operating all weekend with 18 holes of miniature golf, the Stump Jumper Bungee Trampoline and the thrilling Timber Ripper Mountain Coaster. Visit okemo.com for more information about rates and hours of operation.
Thanksgiving Dinner will be served in Coleman Brook Tavern on Thursday, Nov. 24, from 3-8 p.m. A traditional repast with all the trimmings is just $29.95 per person. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (802) 228-1435.
If visitors want to burn off the calories from that extra slice of pumpkin pie, The Okemo Trot It Off 5k takes place on Saturday, Nov. 26, in the Jackson Gore base area. This running/walking race is perfect for the avid runner or the recreational walker. Registration is $25 per person and proceeds go to local community assistance programs. All participants will receive an event t-shirt. The Tots Trot, a kids’ fun race for children 12 and younger, will take place just before the 5k. Race registration starts at 8 a.m. Trot It Off starts at 9:30 a.m.
Last year’s Trot it Off raised $1,000 in proceeds to benefit the Patch Chit Neighbor in Need Fuel Assistance Program.
