With 23 of the 566 eligible voters turning out to cast ballots on Tuesday, Nov. 8, representing a 4% voter turnout, two articles were approved regarding power sources for the Ludlow Electric Department usage.
Article 1, passed 23-0, will allow the Electric Department to enter into power supply purchases from the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority for the period from 2012 to 2038. The purchase approval is contingent on the cost of such power purchases being covered by the revenues and monies raised by the Electric Department.
Article 2, passed by a 20-2 margin, permits the Electric Department to purchase electric power from the WM Renewable Energy LLC from its land-fill gas operation in Fitchburg, MA for the period 2012 through 2026 with an option to extend the agreement through 2031.
According to Ulla Cook, Town Clerk, this was the first such voter approved power purchase since sometime in the 1970's.
