On Jan. 28, Okemo Valley residents and Okemo Mountain Resort’s greatest fans attended Flannel with Flair, the social event of the season that raised $60,000 for the Okemo Community Challenge.
A Vermont themed event, Flannel with Flair gave Okemo’s Roundhouse at Jackson Gore a comfortable, down-home Vermont feel, complete with logs, tin pails and the warm embrace that only flannel can provide. Event guests donned outfits that ranged from subtle flannel ties and jeans to over-the-top flannel dresses with glitzy accents. The evening included dinner prepared by Coleman Brook Tavern’s Executive Chef Scot Emerson and his team, with musical entertainment provided by The Master Cylinders who played a broad range of music from nostalgic rock from the `60s and `70s to current tunes, including Toby Keith’s new hit, “Red Solo Cup.” The evening also included fundraising auctions and unique activities. Businesses and individuals were generous in their donations, helping to make it a successful fundraiser for OCC. Major contributors included Janet Martin, Al Geis and Families, Mary W. Davis Realtors and Associates, Inc., Vermont Properties and Development, Inc., Okemo Mountain Resort, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Clear Lake Furniture, Knockout Carpet, Adams Golf, Andrie Rose Inn, Tim and Diane Mueller.
The Okemo Community Challenge has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local communities. Recently, the organization’s charitable focus has shifted to supporting partnerships between local schools and community organizations. As a result, students will have a better understanding of their communities and the impact they can have as contributing citizens. Flannel with Flair, a premiere event for OCC, continues the tradition of educating by offering challenge grants to worthy local nonprofit organizations, striving to honor the “heart and soul” of Ludlow through support of the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of the community as a whole.
