Mt Holly Roadhouse Music April 10

It’s An Old Time, Road House, Dance Hall Jamboree with a great lineup!! Dance ‘til you drop at the “Spring Mud Fling” Saturday, April 10th at 8 PM.  Featuring well-known Vermont singer songwriter, Carlos Ocasio (pictured above), and the band “Frydaddy”, and opening act singer and keyboard player Jamie Ward.  Ward has been playing to appreciative audiences around southern Vermont for several years.  His energy and wide range of musical talents get audiences dancing and his humor keeps them laughing. “Frydaddy” always gives a foot stompin’, heart thumpin mix of great music that will get you rockin’.  This benefit for the Mount Holly Community Association will be held at the Odd Fellows Hall on Lake Street in Belmont, Vermont.  B.Y.O.B. Spring Auction for Mt Holly School

Please mark your calendars to attend the MOUNT HOLLY SCHOOL SPRING AUCTION on March 20th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Odd Fellows Hall in Belmont to benefit Enrichment Programs for our Elementary School.  These programs may include a greenhouse in the future to generate sustainable food for our hot lunch program, as well as grow plants for future fundraising campaigns and the farmer’s market.  Other programs may include “Artist & Residency Programs” and Technology. 

 

Line up your baby sitter’s fro this adult night out and come on down to celebrate spring for a silent and live auction with over $10,000 worth of items donated by local businesses, artisans and hand made items from every grade in the school!  Eldrid French will be our auctioneer with live music interludes by Joanna Tanger.  Appetizers and desserts will be served that will all be donated by volunteers and restaurants.  We will also have a cash bar with beer, wine, soft drinks and coffee.  Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Belmont Store and Hunter Lea Gallery & Frameshop in Ludlow for $10.00, or at the door for $12.00.
 
Among the numerous items which will be available for preview at 5:00 at the Odd Fellows Hall are artwork, photography, jewelry, baskets galore for every occasion, “pamper yourself”, wine and cheese, gardening baskets, tickets to a Broadway Show in NYC in April, gift certificates, clothing, items for the home, dining certificates and food products, as well as items for “him” including mulch, firewood, wood pellets, oil changes just to name a few! 

 

On the auction block will be priceless items made by each class:  a quilt made by the pre-school class, three hand painted aprons by kindergarten and first grades, a hand made basket from the third grade, two hand made stepping stones from the fourth grade, four planting pots decorated by the fifth grade class as well as four beautiful paintings made in art class by grades three through sixth.  Additionally, we have Boston Bruins autographed print of #33 Zdeno Chara and an autographed puck by Mark Savard.  For those Red Sox fans, we have a Jason Varitek 8 x 10 framed autographed photo!

 

There’s something for everybody, please come and bid for the kids! Have a fun-filled adult evening out for a great cause…any contribution is appreciated!   Supporting our school helps support our children’s success and future contributions to our world!

A Weekend of Old-Fashioned Cider Pressing and Crafts in Mt Holly

The Mount Holly Community Association celebrates the harvest season by honoring the APPLE.  The reds and golds of autumn are appearing on the hills, the air is crisp and once again, the Mount Holly Community Association is gearing up for a fabulous Columbus Day weekend.  Twenty-five vendors, consisting of the community non-profit organizations, local vegetable growers, bakers and crafts people will converge on the Village of Belmont.  Visitors love to stop at the “Green” and experience cider being pressed the old-fashioned way.  Sometimes that's just the best way to do things.  Our method of pressing is simple.  It’s called the "Rack and Cloth” method of pressing cider.  It’s hundreds of years old and fun to watch.  We’ll be selling the cider by the cup and by the gallon along with apple pie and apple crisp.  Saturday, October 10th from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, October 11th noon to 4 pm.

Don’t miss the Mt. Holly Library’s huge selection of pre-owned books for sale in every genre.   

In the Community Center and Library, you can vote on your favorite photographs to be included in the 2011 Mt. Holly Calendar or purchase 2010 calendars to give as Holiday gifts.

Save room for a juicy Roast Beef Dinner served family style Saturday the 10th from 5 to 7 pm.  Experience the country dinner tradition with roast beef and all the trimmings including your choice of many home baked pies.

Join us for this weekend of old fashioned traditions and family fun right in your own backyard. 

Rain or shine don’t miss this fun filled weekend.  Take Route 103 between Rutland and Ludlow to the yellow flashing light and follow signs to Belmont.

Alone & Afoot – The Long Trail in 1940

R. C. Anderson, resident of Mt. Holly, will give a talk on Sunday, September 13th at 4 pm in the Mt. Holly Library.  Mr. Anderson will speak about his experiences as one of the very first to hike the Long Trail and consequently one of the first “end-to-enders”. The Long Trail is the oldest long-distance trail in the United States, constructed between 1910 and 1930 by the Green Mountain Club. As a 1940 graduate of Middlebury College, R.C. was commissioned to hike the trail and take pictures of the various shelters along the way.  His experience was later chronicled in the book “Footpath in the Wilderness”.  This now out of print guide to the trail includes chapters written by George Aiken and notable hikers of the era.   Anderson will discuss what the trail was like in those early days, long before modern amenities.  These were unique times in our history and R.C. encountered many interesting people through his connection to the college and the trail.  Join us for this free program as Mr. Anderson shares information about his vast experiences on hiking and the history of Vermont’s premier trail. 

JAZZ CABARET ON THE MT. HOLLY STAGE, Sept. 6

Sunday, September 6th at 8 pm the Mt. Holly Community Association we will welcome back Alexa Fila and Joe Solomon to our jazz cabaret evening.  Joe on the string bass and Alexa vocalist will perform jazz favorites in the Billie Holiday style.  We will transform the community center and library into a Cabaret and serve decadent desserts and libations for purchase.  Alexa and Joe have entertained audiences here many times before and they always play to a packed house.  Be sure to get there early to get a good seat.  As always, our events are free and open to the public.

STAND–UP SHAKESPEARE IN MT. HOLLY Sept. 5

A free performance, Saturday, September 5th at 3 pm fourteen New York City actors led by our Jamie Ward, part time resident of Mt. Holly, Vermont is bringing a new concept to the Mt. Holly Library & Community Center Stage.  “Stand-Up Shakespeare”, in the tradition of Comedy Central’s stand up comedians, is a show that will amuse you and entertain you.  They will perform a self-contained show that will include the drama, music and comedy of William Shakespeare. You will experience the best monologues and scenes from a dozen different plays presented in three or four minute vignettes.  See how each of these snippets of Shakespeare will be interpreted and expressed by each actor.  This will be a fast-paced and fun way to experience the famous bard.  All products of “The Michael Howard Studio” this group of acting professionals meet every Labor Day Weekend in Killington, Vermont for a “Shakespeare Retreat”.  Each day of the retreat is divided into workshops, games and performance challenges with the intent of deepening the understanding of Shakespeare. These very talented professional performing artists’ credits include extensive acting in film, television, commercials and professional theater and they have agreed to share their time and talents while here in Vermont.  All participants are members of either the Screen Actor’s Guild or Actors’ Equity.  This show will be an explosion of words, passion, comedy and tragedy!!  Don’t miss this opportunity to witness great Shakespeare performed by the pros in a beautiful location in Mt. Pie & Ice Cream Social – Book Sale – Farmer’s Market

Don’t miss our 1st annual extravaganza of homemade pies and ice cream Sunday, August 30, 2 to 4 pm.  The Mt. Holly Library extends an invitation to join them for an old-fashioned “Pie and Ice Cream Social” that harkens back to a day when the pace of life was slower and more relaxed.  Proceeds support additions to the book collection – so have a second piece!  Come early and shop our famous book sale from 10 am to 4 pm.  New titles always being added to our diverse stock of sale books.  Stop by the Mt. Holly Farmer’s Market noon to 3 pm.  It’s all happening in Belmont Village!

At the Mount Holly Town Library there will be a book sale Saturday, August 8th  from 10am to 4pm. We have many newly donated books that have added to our huge sale collection.  All genres are represented.  Volunteers have done a wonderful job of organizing the tables by category.  All proceeds benefit programs for the library.  Take a short ride to beautiful Mt.
