MONTPELIER — After waiting for more than two months, Mad Taco is finally opening for business Saturday at 72 Main St., the former Samosaman location.
While the owners of Mad Taco — Wes Hamilton, Scott Kerner, Matt McCarthy and Joey Nagy — wanted to open the restaurant in December with a full commercial kitchen, they claim that neighboring property owner Jeff Jacobs threw a wrench into their plans.
In the days leading up to today’s opening, a back-and-forth, he-said-they-said has taken shape, bringing to light fresh accusations of landlord profiteering and long-standing gripes about stalled economic development in Montpelier.
According to the Mad Taco owners, the debate started over whether to install a full commercial kitchen at the Montpelier location and do all the food preparation and cooking there. Another Mad Taco is located in Waitsfield.
