The following email (below) was forwarded to me today by three people. It seems as though the Montpelier Democrats, whoever or whatever they/that may mean, have decided to unilaterally throw their weight behind the candidacy of two people, John Odum and Nancy Sherman. As a life-long Democrat I'm surprised by this sudden appearance of party labels in what has, until now, always been a pretty much party-free, label free political arena (as casually mentioned in their email). As a life-long Democrat I wonder how it is that my opponent wins the Democratic crown, so to speak, from the local Democratic party/committee. Was there a primary that I missed?
I'm not certain that I'll be free tomorrow at 1:30 to attend this meeting at our public library but hope that some of you will be able to attend. It's certain to be an interesting meeting, with the opportunity to ask some very interesting questions.
Thank you for your continued support and, as ever, please call if any questions or concerns.

Subject: Democrats for Democrats!
This is an unusual year because we have two contested elections on Town Meeting Day, each one featuring a long-time Montpelier Democrat.
In the race for City Clerk, John Odum, who has been a member of the Montpelier Democratic Committee for many years, has served as Washington County Democratic Chair, and has many years of experience managing voter databases is running to replace retiring Clerk Charlotte Hoyt. In the race for City Council, District 2 Council Member Nancy Sherman, the senior member of the City Council, who has served the City with dedication for many years is facing a challenge to her continued service.
Although city posts in Montpelier are not partisan, supporting John and Nancy will help keep our Democratic values of an effective and creative city government alive.
Please join us this Saturday at the East Montpelier Room of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library, 1:30-3:00, to organize our efforts to elect John and re-elect Nancy.
I hope to see you there.
Jack
