Reporter who took down a general to be at Bear Pond Books Tuesday

MONTPELIER — On Feb. 7, reporter and author Michael Hastings is scheduled to be at Bear Pond Books at 7 p.m. to discuss his new book "The Operators."

In 2010, Hastings wrote a story for Rolling Stone about the war in Afghanistan and the general leading the fight.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal and his staff offered Hastings their frank and unflattering opinions about President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. 

Shortly after the story was published, Obama fired McChrystal.

In his book, Hastings tells for the first time the full story of McChrystal's spectacular rise and fall.

Frank Rich calls the book "an impressive feat of journalism by a Washington outsider who seemed to know more about what was going on in Washington than most insiders did."
