MONTPELIER — The grand opening for Clean Slate Cafe, Montpelier's newest restaurant, is today.
The tagline for the restaurant is “comfort food with a twist.”
Located where the old Thrush Tavern used to be just off State Street, the renovated pub is now a bright restaurant that seats 44 people and has a small but reasonably complete bar.
Owner Athene Cua has been working on getting the restaurant operational for several months.
Her original idea was a kid-friendly eatery where parents can come with their children and hang out. But that was in November, before she had even decided on a name.
Now new people have joined her staff and the concept has evolved to a more traditional restaurant.
Assistant Manager Jen Bryant said that rather than being kid-friendly per se, the Clean Slate Cafe is family-friendly.
Bryant said they are hoping to pull in state workers during the day by creating a place where people can comfortably have a lunch meeting.
This year I wanted MVP again. I practiced and worked hard and got MVP this year too! I am very proud for getting MVP for two consecutive years. Both of my plaques are hanging in my room..
