Valentine Phantom strikes again

MONTPELIER — The Valentine Phantom has done it again.

Nearly the entire downtown has been blanketed with hearts, hearts and more hearts.

Montpelierites woke up this morning to find a piece of white paper with a pink heart taped to just about every window and door.

The identity of the Valentine Phantom, or phantoms, remains a mystery, but every year for the last 10 years on Valentine's Day they do it all over again.

The now defunct Langdon St. Cafe got some love too with a "We miss you" Valentine.

Nightmares on College Street

MONTPELIER — For the second year in a row, the Central Vermont Community Players have created a haunted house at the Vermont College of Fine Arts Noble Hall to scare people and raise money.

It's called "Nightmares on College Street."

The storyline is about a disturbed doctor performing gruesome operations. Visitors of the haunted house get to watch as his insane projects come alive while they enter the doctor's nightmares.

The haunted house is open Friday and Saturday 7 to 10 p.m. and Sunday and Monday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.

The haunted house is a fundraiser for the Central Vermont Community Players. Producer Linda Winter said that this is the second year they've done the haunted house and she hopes it becomes a Montpelier tradition.

While there will be some similarities with last year's haunted house, Winter said, it's not exactly the same — people will hopefully be scared, and there will be gory surprises.

Stolen scary clown sign is recovered

MONTPELIER — Police have recovered the Central Vermont Community Players' clown sign reported stolen on Sunday.

Early Monday morning, at around 1:30 a.m., police were checking on a man sitting in a parked Subaru Forester near the intersection of State and Taylor streets.

In the vehicle the patrol officers found Lucus Sweetser, 36, of Waterbury, the stolen clown sign and marijuana.

Sweetser was cited for possession of stolen property and marijuana.

The sign is for the Central Vermont Community Players annual haunted house called "Nightmares on College Street."

The haunted house runs from Oct. 28 to Oct. 31 at the Vermont College of Fine Arts Noble Hall. Tickets are $10 for adult and $7 for students and the elderly.

Bingo night at Charlie-O's

MONTPELIER — Sexy Bexy and Bad Mr. Bingo will begin hosting a bingo night every Thursday at Charlie-O's starting on Oct. 20 to benefit the Vermont Food Bank.

It's scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and end at midnight. There will be five games total each night with cash prizes awarded.

Just bring a non-perishable food item to exchange for a bingo card and let the games begin.

Weather lady can't stop laughing

This isn't about Montpelier, heck, it's not even in English, but it's so funny I had to share it.

Here's a video of a lady doing the weather and she just can't stop laughing. This video also shows why, besides having a face and a voice for print journalism, I could't do broadcast. Something like this would happen to me for sure.

 

Someone jumped off the Main Street bridge on Tuesday

MONTPELIER — At 4:12 p.m. Tuesday, police were notified that someone had jumped off the Main Street bridge into the Winooski river.

Police and emergency responders searched the area, but were unable to locate the jumper.

According to the police report, it appears that the subject of the search did make it out of the water near Shaw's and headed north on the railroad tracks that run parallel to Stone Cutters Way towards Hunger Mountain Co-op.

The person was described as a man in his 50s who appears homeless with unruly hair and wearing a dark flannel shirt with long pants.

Workers at the salt shed on Stone Cutters Way said they saw a man matching that description walking on the railroad tracks. They said he crossed over at 191 Barre St. and that he appeared disoriented.
