I hear through many grapevines that former NBA player Bonzi Wells will be playing with the Puerto Rico team in the Premier Basketball League this winter.
Now if the PBL had an up-to-date Web site with pages for each team, this could easily be confirmed. But, yeah right. A quick Google search shows that Wells spent some successful time in China playing for the Shanxi Zhongyu, dropping 48 and 52 points in two separate games early in his stint in China.
Wells spent time in the NBA with the Hornets, Trail Blazers, Grizzlies, Kings and Rockets and would be a huge boost to the PBL - and a huge bomb for the BSN, the main league in Puerto Rico. If he plays and stays healthy and is still in somewhat NBA shape or the shape he was in when he played in China.
Also, in checking the PBL Web site to be sure my above comments about it were true (they are. They still have links to the Montreal, Reading, Maryland NightHawks, Augusta, Battle Creek and Quad City teams across the top. Come on, those guys didn't even make it to this summer, some not even the end of the season.), I learn that Rob Spon has been named the head coach of the Maryland GreenHawks. Yes, Rob Spon, the former Manchester coach, and yes, the GreenHawks may just be a bit related to the former NightHawks, I just don't know how exactly.
Should be an interesting season...
