The fall 2010 season is upon us, and my goal for this school year is, once again, to be better about updating this blog. I just took some time to answer a few comments on older posts, and I even got an email recently asking for more information about something I had posted about weeks and weeks ago. So I apparently do have some readers! Good to know.
Last week we received the schedule for playoffs for the entire school calendar, and it made me about pass out. With the sports seasons all pushed back a week (so I hear because principals want more summer vacation for students), that of course changed the schedule for playdowns, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals for a bunch of sports. The changes mainly impact fall and spring teams, but that's really quite enough. As it stands now, all three divisions of field hockey and all four divisions of each boys and girls soccer will play all levels of playoffs on the SAME DAYS. The same goes for boys and girls lacrosse, baseball and softball in the spring. So, that means that on November 5/6, there will be three field hockey state championships and eight soccer championships AT THE SAME TIME. I can already see the state's media getting bombarded with nasty-grams from parents, coaches and players as to why so many title games weren't covered. I of course hope our area teams all make it to championships, but at the same time, that will be impossible for us to cover fairly. Just a heads up!
I am very much looking forward to the start of the season, all future crazy schedule days included. It's what makes my job fun, and certainly not boring.
