Our fourth installment of a season guide to high school sports will be available starting tomorrow, Sept. 17. I remember (and still have!) these special sections from when I was in high school, and last fall we started putting them together again.
So far, the "tabs" have been widly successful. Several athletic directors have said they can't keep them on the shelves. I know they have become an invaluable resource here at the Times Argus in terms of checking the spelling of names, roster number questions, etc. We have even had youth programs wanting to purchase copies of team photos for when their little athletes attend varsity games and want autographs from their "big kid" role models.
We also have one fantastic photography department, and these guides give us more of an opportunity to showcase the work of Jeb Wallace-Brodeur, Stefan Hard and Kyle Martel. Sports editor Jamie Biggam and I have even contributed a few team shots (Jamie has some in this guide, mine have been in earlier guides).
The guide also contains schedules and past champions for the fall sports. The middle of the guide features a big map of Vermont with yellow numbered dots for each high school corresponding with a list of Vermont's high schools with addresses, phone numbers, etc., to plug into your GPS or mapquest or google directions.
It's a keepsake, it's a reference, and it's a whole lot of work, so be sure to pick one up on Friday!

It sure would have been nice if the Northfield Girls Marauder's had made the Fall Sports Guide. Do you know why they were ommitted?

For various reasons, I had less to do with the planning and production of this particular sports guide than the previous three, so I can't tell you for sure what happened.
I do know there are other teams not there, too (Chelsea boys and girls soccer, Peoples Academy cross country, Hazen girls soccer, Harwood field hockey and cross country, Spaulding cross country, U-32 cross country). I would love to see every team in every guide, but deadline pressures and the sheer number of teams can and do create a perfect storm for teams not to be included. It was no snub, I can promise that.

Well it may not have been a snub, but when you are the parent of one of the players, you look forward to being able to have this, just as you say above, as a keepsake for their "high school" career. Perhaps you could do a 2nd edition of the "missing teams"?????????

There is also a Northfield Cross Country Team. I don't think they made it either. thanks

As far as a second edition goes, you'd have to speak with my sports editor, Jamie Biggam, about that. I know he's been in touch with Northfield AD Frank Pecora and some of the other 'missing' schools/teams.

Thanks Anna, appreciate you responding to my concerns. I will go ahead and contact Jamie Biggam, if all the teams you mentioned were ommitted, then I think it's worth a 2nd copy. If he needs me to get the pic of our Varsity Girls and Cross Country and send in, I would be happy to do that.
Thanks again...

Haven't heard anything since I emailed your Sports Editor...Can you poke him about this? Pleeeeaaaseeee...BTW...
The girls have a home game vs. Thetford tomorrow @ 4:00 p.m. It would be great to get some coverage. It would be nice to get some pics out there that can be purchased!
Thanks

I am sorry you haven't heard anything back, and I did let him know your concern. I have a feeling there won't be an opportunity to do another tab - the print schedule is always full, plus it won't be long before we have to start getting the winter one ready.
Good luck vs. Thetford! I'm not sure what the schedule is like for today...

8-0 Northfield, hope it was possible to get some coverage...guess I will find out in the morning. It seems that Montpelier and Spaulding get their fair share of coverage..it's too bad the smaller schools don't get as much.... :(
thanks for trying!!!

Well it looks like we did get some coverage in the paper on Thursday...thanks again, I am sure you had something to do with that! Now I am just looking for a picture of #13...hint hint...Just kidding Anna, I appreciate all you do....and look forward to reading your articles...just bummed that we didn't get in the sports guide. The girls apparently also missed the opportunity to get into the Northfield New this week....boys got a huge picture right at the top of the page...girls...nothing...Oh well....have a great weekend, Anna...I am sure we will get some coverage from Saturday vs. Montpelier...may not want it, though...LOL.

Thank you, Kelly. I hope to get out to see Northfield at some point this fall - Garvey Field is one of my favorite places to cover games, especially during foliage time.

We have Lyndon at home on the 14th and I believe Harwood at home on the 20th...we are @ U32 on Tuesday the 12th and @ Spaulding on the 22nd...still no pics of #13 even though we do have some shots posted from the thetford game. Am hoping to see some posted from last night's Montpelier game....but i know there was a lot going on in Montpelier for their homecoming yesterday!!!

you'd better hurry if you want to see the foliage, it's fading fast!!!
