About On Deck

  • On Deck Online is just that - an online version of my weekly look-ahead-at-area-sports column, "On Deck," that appears in the Times Argus print edition on Mondays. Keep checking back for live blogs of games (from gyms, fields and rinks that actually have wireless); extra quotes that didn't make it into my stories; the occasional mail bag to respond to email from readers; good writing I find from newspapers and sports sites around the country; and more.

Anna I agree with your comment "promote the rigors and validity of the sport." I think with the recent success of the UFC wrestling will continue to grow. The sport itself is not for the weak of heart or mind. Those kids train their butts off and deserve any/all accolades they can get. Great article!

Thanks for including this in the Times. Being an alumni of SHS and the wrestling team, it is nice to read about how well the team is doing. It is also good for the community to know about it. Wrestling all too often goes under the radar in Vermont and many other places not named Iowa or Wisconsin, but it does not mean that outstanding coaches and student athletes should not be recognized for the hard work and effort they give. Congratulations to everyone involved.
