Six Vermont Ravens named all-stars, six more are alternates

The Vermont Ravens will have at least six players represented in the New England Football League All-Star game at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Mass. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

The six are RB/FS David Maxfield, WR Clayton Torres, SS/RB Roy Rose, OL/DL Tyler Baker, OL/DL Nolan Callahan and WR Steve Noyes. Should any of these guys be unavailable to play, these are the six alternates: WR/RB Aaron Carrien, DB Olivier Kpesse, QB Guerschom Jean-Gilles, DE Dylan Wright, Isreal Moreno and K Jamal Jacobs.

All three NEFL conferences will play in an all-star game, with the conference the Ravens play in, 'A', playing at 11:30 a.m. AA will be at 2 p.m. followed by AAA at 4:30 p.m.

18 Vermont athletes finalists for HS Heisman

There may truly be one Heisman Trophy winner, but that's just college football. Wendy's High School Heisman finalists were announced today, which include 18 Vermonters (conveniently in the award's 18th year of existence).

The release says 48,000 seniors applied nationwide, and 82 of those were Vermonters. Those applicants were narrowed down to 18 finalists who "embody the Heisman spirit of hard work and dedication through their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community/school leadership."

Among the 18 are the following central Vermonters:

Spaulding's Matthew Avery, Danville's Jamie Cyr, Peoples Academy's Chris Hinrichs, Blue Mountain's Aimee Thompson and Harwood's Laurel Whitney.

One male and one female winner from each state will be announced on Friday, Nov. 4. Of those winners, 12 will be chosen as national finalists with the winners crowned Dec. 9 in New York City. One male and one female winner - featured in a ceremony on an ESPN branch - will receive a trophy, gold medals and $2,000. Wendy's will donate $10,000 to each winner's school.
