I was deeply saddened to hear of longtime Harwood softball coach Fred LaRock's diagnosis with lung cancer. The response by the Harwood athletic department, however, came as no surprise - these people are always one of the best examples of community I come across.
Michelle Black and Russ Beilke are organizing a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on January 15, 2012 called FredFest with all proceeds going to the LaRock family. There are high school co-ed, adult co-ed and men's only divisions with play starting at 8 a.m. in Harwood's Griffith Gymnasium. Pre-registration deadline is Jan. 1 with a team fee of $200. That jumps to $250 for the final registration deadline of Jan. 12. Checks (NO debit or credit card payments can be accepted) can be sent to:
HUHS Fred LaRock Fund
Harwood Union High School attention Michelle Black
458 VT Route 100
South Duxbury, VT 05660
Registration forms with medical releases must be signed, and I've attached the flyer here: Download FredFest Flyer[1]
Our thoughts and prayers are with Fred and his family - I always loved covering his games and looked forward to his phone calls when we couldn't be there in person. I hope the central Vermont athletic family turns out in droves for this!
