Talked with Vermont Mountaineers general manager Brian Gallagher today, and he had some good news for fans of the 2011 team: right-handed closer Kyle Grana and catcher Matt Wallenzin will be returning to Recreation Field this summer as Mountaineers.
Grana and Wallenzin will be joined by outfielder Brian O'Grady, who was already announced to be on the 2012 roster.
Grana, of Bellarmine University, was a dominant, hard-throwing closer for Vermont in 2011, appearing in 20 games and posting a 1-1 record. He tallied 11 saves over 22.1 innings pitched, struck out 28 opposing batters, allowed just six hits and dished out 12 walks.
Wallenzin, of Austin Peay University, appeared in 22 games and had 61 at-bats with a batting averag eof .098. He scored seven runs and drive in seven others, drew 12 walks and had six hits. He struck out 19 times and had two doubles and one stolen base.
The Vermont Mountaineers will celebrate their 10th anniversary this summer and will celebrate by hosting the Great Britain National Team on July 4 and the NECBL All-Star Game on July 22. Players arrive over the first week of June.
