There's adult coed dodgeball in Montpelier (I wrote about it once, one of the coolest assignments ever and definitely one of those times where I ask myself: "I get paid for this?!"), and now there will be adult coed floor hockey in the Capital City.
Vermont Floor Hockey announced it's expansion Central Vermont group, based out of the Montpelier Recreation Center on 55 Barre Street, this week. Vermont Floor Hockey was founded by Mario Dupigny-Giroux, who works in Montpelier for the State of Vermont. According to a release from VFH, he's been a key player in "providing fall and winter coed floor hockey leagues in the Burlington area for the last 10 years. The organization was originally started to permit friends in their adult age to meet and play floor hockey in a fun and friendly way."
The season will last 10 weeks, starting on Jan. 29 and running through April 15. My favorite line in the whole release is: "To let players celebrate with family and friends, there will be no games on Super Bowl and Easter Sundays." The games will be held on Sundays from 3-5 p.m.
Four teams will be formed with each team playing nine regular-season games and at least one playoff game. The winner of the Montpelier-based group will take on the winner from Burlington for the club championship and serious intra-state bragging rights.
Players can register as an individual or a team, at $50 per player, by January 15. Dupigny-Giroux can be reached at [email protected] or 363-1531 and registration forms can be downloaded at www.vermontfloorhockey.com.
Vermont Floor Hockey is based in Williston.
