I got this email last Friday - another reminded that spring can't possibly be that far away. Racing season is a few months away, but now is the time to support one of the track favorites at Thunder Road as she goes for a $10,000 scholarship.
Here's the email:
"Support a Champion: Female racecar driver overcomes handicap to capture the flag
Jennifer Getty was born without a right hand, but capturing the checkered flag in the male-dominated sport of racecar driving has proven to be well within reach of this native Vermonter. Getty is in her fifth season of racing in the Street Stock Division at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, Vt. A rising star on the race track, she continues her upward momentum in the rankings. Having only one hand has not handicapped her determination to realize her goals of excelling on the race track and inspiring others to realize their dreams.
Getty has entered a video contest with Champion Auto parts to win one of five $10,000 sponsorships. A third of her final score is based on the number of votes she receives. Check out the contest at www.alwaysachampion.com, and view - and vote on -- her inspirational story, "One Hand, One Goal" here: http://contest.alwaysachampion.com/contests/searchholder1?q=jennifer+getty&contestId=7656. You can vote once a day through February 4. Please help spread the word about our local Champion!
