Groovy journalism gig: Last week I was contacted by the Associated Press VT Bureau Chief, who gave me an assignment to cover a major criminal sentencing hearing, which could ultimately influence Federal law. First time I've sat in a courtroom for hours, taking copious notes, then calling in core verdict/case details (just like in the movies, but I used my cell phone instead of a phone booth!) before pounding out the full piece on my laptop and filing it just before the news hour. Though I've been writing for ages, it's great to be able to add the AP to my resume and to be covering important hard news items for the Vermont Bureau!
