We're having unconfirmed reports that Bennington is working hard to close Route 9 from their end; it's sounding like that road - which travels east-west across the Green Mountains between the two cities - is one of the hardest hit areas in the state.
This is causing trouble b/c travellers coming off I-91 are actually driving around the authorities at road stops, because there is heavy rain, but not much wind down south.
Brattleboro Director of Public Works Steve Barrett says "The message we want to get out is if you don't have to go out, don't. Stay off the roads."
Two thousand people, including the Municipal Center in downtown Brattleboro are out of power - they MC, which is where emergency operations are, is running on backup power, according to reporter Kevin O'Connor.
