BENNINGTON – Despite rumors and some published reports, the water supply in Bennington will not be shut off and most residents will not be losing water, said town officials.
Bennington's water supply is supplied from two sites, a water filtration station in Woodford and a water station at Morgan Spring.
A pipe connecting the water filtration system to Bennington was damaged during the storm Sunday. However, the other water station is continuing to operate. Some Bennington residents who live in the town's higher elevations have lost water but for most residents, water service will continue.
People in the higher elevations have lost water because the station at Morgan Spring can't generate enough pressure to push the water uphill.
The town's water department is taking steps to get water to those people, using two 8,500 gallon trucks that were loaned to the town to carry water uphill but most people will have water for home use.
As the town works to repair the damage to the water pipe, officials are asking residents to conserve water. As a temporary measure, the town has received some donations of bottled water which are being handed out to residents.
