WATERBURY CENTER - Two towns in Vermont and two in New Hampshire have each been awarded grants for children's reading programs and books.
The Vermont towns are Gilman and Lunenburg; the New Hampshire towns are Colebrook and Stratford.
The New Hampshire towns are each receiving a $50,000 grant from the Children's Literacy Foundation. The Vermont towns will receive grants of $25,000 each. The grants cover a three-year period.
To be eligible for the awards, applicants had to describe the need for children's literacy support in their community.
Events marking the start of the programs are Wednesday in Colebrook; Thursday in Stratford; and Sept. 20 in Lunenburg and Gilman. Parents and children from each community will enjoy storytelling presentations, free books, and the chance to sign up for magazine subscriptions.
