PITTSFIELD, Vt. — Nearly five weeks after Tropical Storm Irene ripped away roads and bridges in Vermont, a stretch of Route 100 has reopened in Pittsfield, one of the hardest hit communities in the state.
The 11-miles section of road runs from the junction of Route 107 in Stockbridge to the intersection of Route 4 in Killington.
The road was heavily damaged in the Aug. 28 storm, which isolated the community.
Officials said Friday that a temporary bridge has been installed in Pittsfield to replace one that was damaged by the storm.
But the transportation agency is warning drivers to be careful passing through town where local recovery effort is under way.
