Gov. Peter Shumlin was on hand Thursday morning at the Vermont Foodbank in Barre to thank representatives from Smithfield Foods and The United Food and Commercial Workers Union for their donation of 30,000 pounds of pork products.
"It really couldn't come at a better time," said John Sayles, CEO of the Vermont Foodbank.
Since Hurricane Irene left many displaced throughout the state, Sayles said the foodbank has had to have extra truckloads of food to feed those in need.
Shumlin said this is just one of many generous contributions that have been coming to the state since Irene, and every bit will help put Vermonters back on their feet.
"It is acts of generosity like this ... that are going to help us rebuild," said Shumlin.
