It's been many games since being a RedSox fan was much fun. The daily grind of watching the team's offense turn punchless, starting pitching get shelled, relief corp give up leads and ... well, I'm starting to not feel well.
The beginning of yesterday's doubleheader was no different as the Sox got behind early then caught up, but just couldn't get the hit needed to tie the game or take the lead.
So when the nightcap had John Lackey on the mound and he immediately gave up three runs before most people had even settled into their chairs, the groans from the Nation were loud.
But then the RedSox did something we haven't seen in a while -- they hit the ball.
A lot.
In fact, the Sox scored 18 runs, which was a good thing because Lackey was, well, Lackey, and gave up eight runs in 4 1/3 innings. Boston won 18-9.
Despite another poor pitching performance, it was a fun game to watch as the RedSox offense exploded.
Jacoby Ellsbury hit an inside-the-park-homerun to the triangle, Conor Jackson blasted a grand slam, and Jed Lowry hit a three-run homer that gave the Sox the lead in the bottom of the first.
With the win, Boston maintains a two-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the wildcard chase.
