A trio of Green Mountain College students who became lost during a hiking expedition in Pawlet on Thursday came out of the woods unharmed on Friday, according to state police.
The students, Chris Jenkins, Courtney Heverly and Jack Hepburn were part of a class of students and a professor who were hiking on a trail from Waite Hill Road to Haystack Mountain Wednesday.
At about 3 p.m., the three students became separated from the group and got lost.
A search organized by their classmates and the West Pawlet Fire Department combed the area looking for them but the trio were forced to spend a night outdoors -- burning notebook paper to stay warm -- until they were able to hike out of the woods at about 7:15 a.m. today.
