Montpelier and Northfield schools look for common ground - but no merger

NORTHFIELD — In an effort to provide a broader range of academic offerings, the Northfield and Montpelier school districts are looking for ways to collaborate.
At a meeting Monday night, both boards were eager to explore where collaboration could take place but were quick to conclude that neither board was ready to move forward with an outright merger.
“We’re not interested in a school district merger,” said Sue Aldrich, chairwoman of the Montpelier School Board. “We do not want to lose local governance for either community.”
