The Corner Mart at 377 West St. in Rutland was the victim of an attempted robbery Sunday afternoon.
At about 1:14 p.m., a white male, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing brown pants and a gray or dark brown zip-up hoodie, a white ski hat, black cloth covering his face and tan gloves asked the cashier for cigarettes, according to police.
The cashier asked if the man wanted anything else and asked for identification. The man didn't provide any and told the clerk to put all the money in the register into a brown paper bag. The cashier didn't do it and called police. The man then ran away to a waiting silver pickup on Watkins Avenue. The man got in the passenger side of the truck and drove north.
Anyone with information is asked to call 773-1816.
