We compile the police logs for Montpelier and Barre in a weekly report, and they are often revealing. Here is a sampling of recent calls handled by the Montpelier Police Department:
Jan. 16
The owner of a vehicle parked in the 24-hour lot behind the Blanchard Block building reported two rear tires had been slashed.
An East State Street resident reported that someone had stolen her outgoing mail.
Jan. 15
A caller reported that he was attacked by a dog on College Street and was forced to fend it off with a stick.
Rochelle Dodge, 24, of Barre, was cited for criminal driving while license suspended. Dodge is scheduled to appear in court March 1 to answer to the charge.
Jan. 14
Jordan Chatterton, 30, of Montpelier, was cited on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the police report, Chatterton registered 0.226 percent blood alcohol content. He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 2 to answer to the charge.
A backpack was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle near 10 Pinewood Road.
Champlain Farms on Memorial Drive reported that someone drove off without paying for gas.
Jan. 13
Brent Roya, 41, of Moretown, was cited on a charge of retail theft for allegedly consuming whipped cream while inside Shaw’s but refusing to pay for it. According to the police report, Roya told the store manager he didn’t have to pay for the whipped cream because he didn’t leave the store with it. Roya is to appear in court Feb. 23 to answer to the charge and was issued a no-trespass order for Shaw’s.
Items were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on State St.
Jan. 12
A St. Paul St. resident reported that someone had stolen a computer.
A stop sign at Elm and School streets was vandalized with graffiti.
Jan. 11
A caller reported seeing someone smash the window at Katie’s Jewels on State St.
A Baldwin St. resident reported that someone was trying to kick his door.
Jan. 10
Pauline Johnson, 28, of Barre, was cited with attempting to elude law enforcement. According to the police report, Johnson failed to pull over her vehicle as directed by a patrol officer while driving by the water treatment plant on Paine Turnpike North in Berlin.
