MONTPELIER — Skiers and snowboarders are rejoicing in the recent snowfall after a winter of little snow.
But safety officials say the snow also raises concerns for those who like to ski and snowboard in the backcountry.
Neil Van Dyke of Stowe Mountain Rescue said he had reports Monday morning of at least three different avalanches this weekend.
The people were able to get out safely and were not injured.
He insists that those heading in to backcountry carry a head lamp, food and water, an avalanche transponder and a GPS device.
