BARRE — Mayor Thomas Lauzon sent City Clerk Carol Dawes flowers for Valentine’s Day and arrived at Tuesday night’s council meeting with candy for his colleagues, but school board member Rachel Piper beat him to the punch when it comes to spreading the love this week.
Although Piper and board Chairwoman Marcia Biondolillo rarely find themselves on the same page on anything school-related, the former went well out of her way to express her appreciation for the latter’s years of service on the board.
Turns out Piper will miss Biondolillo, who opted not to run for re-election this year, and she sure knows how to show it.
“I might even buy you a beer,” she said as Monday’s meeting was coming to a close.
“I might take you up on it,” Biondolillo replied.
The sweet-as-can-be exchange sure sounded genuine, but that didn’t stop board member Anita Ristau from rolling her eyes and looking for Cupid.
“This has become a love-fest,” she declared.
