MONTPELIER — Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy and Rep. Peter Welch are traveling to Cuba, Haiti and Columbia to inspect recovery efforts after the 2010 earthquake and to meet with government officials.
In Haiti, the four senators and two House members will visit U.S.-supported relief projects and meet with government officials, humanitarian aid workers and U.S. embassy officers.
They also will deliver supplies of clothes and toiletries to a woman’s shelter that were donated by the mother of Vermonter Flo McGarrell, who died in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
The delegation will also meet with government officials and civil society leaders and others in Cuba and Columbia during the five-day trip.
