For folks traumatized by Tropical Storm Irene, help is on its way.
An organization of crisis intervention teams called Starting over Strong Vermont has scheduled support groups and workshops in Wilmington, Waterbury and Montpelier over the next few weeks.
Starting over Strong Vermont is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The idea is to build resiliency by organizing events that bring people together to tell their stories, get assistance through a group setting or just come together as a community to share a dinner.
“People of future generations will benefit from listening to stories of courage, resilience, neighborliness and generosity told with good humor and a few tears,” SOS Vermont said in a news release.
March 16, a story circle is scheduled at the Twin Valley High School library in Wilmington from 7 to 9 p.m.
The group, in partnership with the Vermont Folklife Center, hosted the first story circle Feb. 17 at the Athens Community Christian Church.
SOS Vermont is designed to assist individuals of all ages to better understand why they feel the way they do and how to begin to feel safe and confident again going forward.
