Town budget
Proposed General Fund budget of $3,757,289, an increase of $85,741, compared to the 2011 budget of $3,671,548.
The public will vote on total expenditures of $5,920,737, of which $2,271,919 will be raised by taxes, $1,375,150 in nontax revenue and $2,090,364 in estimated reimbursement from FEMA for Tropical Storm Irene repairs. In addition, $183,304 will flow as revenue into the General Fund from an unspent pool of money in the town’s Economic Development and Tourism Department.
School budget
Proposed $1,500,823 for Killington Elementary School, up $46,013, from this year’s budget of $1,454,810. The 2012 figure includes $674,930 in revenues and $52,065 in capital debt. The public will also vote in a school director.
Special articles
Shall the town continue to provide health insurance benefits to town employees at the same levels as in 2011, which would add a total amount of $10,000 to the 2012 budget as proposed by the Selectmen?
Contested races
Incumbent Chris Bianchi is facing Charlie Demarest for a three-year seat on the Select Board. The public will vote on all items and candidates by paper ballot, for first time in town history, with the exception of the school budget vote.
Meeting location
The town will vote on the school budget from the floor at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Killington Elementary School. Paper ballots for all other town business can be cast at the elementary school at the end of Schoolhouse Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
