Thunder Road postponed to Friday night, same time

Times Argus Sports Editor Anna Grearson is reporting that tonight's Thunder Road race card - Aubuchon Hardware/Benjamin Moore Paint Night - has been postponed because of rain until tomorrow night with the same 6:30 p.m. post time.

The event is the final point-counting event for the Late Models and the "King of the Road" will be crowned after a 100-lap feature race. Montpelier's Dave Pembroke is currently in the lead with 827 points, followed by Graniteville's John Donahue with 789 points and Barre's Nick Sweet and Montpelier's Phil Scott tied for fourth with 782 points.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — A rally that ranks among the best. A collapse hardly anyone saw coming. There was even a guy in a red shirt Sunday, pumping his fists with each clutch putt in the final, frenzied hour of the PGA Championship.   

In a major filled with unfamiliar names, Keegan Bradley delivered an unforgettable finish.    Bradley was five shots behind with only three holes to play after his chip shot raced across the 15th green and into the water, leading to a triple bogey. That’s when he reminded himself that no lead was safe on the final four holes at Atlanta Athletic Club.      “I just kept telling myself, ‘Don’t let that hole define this whole tournament,”’ Bradley said.    Instead, it led to one of the most stunning turnarounds in a major. Bradley made back-to-back birdies, including a 35-footer with a belly putter that rattled into the cup on the 17th.    Then came a monumental meltdown by Jason Dufner. Unflappable all afternoon, he hit his tee shot in the water on the 15th for the first of three straight bogeys that led to a three-hole playoff.      Bradley birdied the 16th hole in the playoff — his first outright lead of the day — and went on to win by one shot.    The son of a PGA professional in Vermont, wearing red for his alma mater — St. John’s — Bradley became only the third player in at least 100 years to win a major championship in his first try.

Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley are going to a three-hole playoff in the PGA Championship. They finished regulation at 8 under at Atlanta Athletic Club. With one hole left, Bradley is up by two strokes. Go Vermont!

US skier from Vermont tossed off team after incident on flight

NEW YORK — The U.S. Ski Team has dismissed an 18-year-old member of its development squad after he was accused of getting drunk and then urinating on a fellow passenger aboard a JetBlue flight.

Robert “Sandy” Vietze, of Warren, Vt., was detained by police at New York’s Kennedy Airport Wednesday morning after arriving on a red-eye flight from Portland, Ore.

A spokeswoman for the Port Authority Police said federal prosecutors later decided not to pursue criminal charges. But that didn’t get the teen out of trouble.

U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Executive Vice President of Athletics Luke Bodensteiner emailed a statement Friday to The Associated Press.

It said Vietze had been dismissed from the team for conduct violations.

No one has been answering the phone at the family’s home.
