- Word this morning from U.S. Rep. Peter Welch's office is that he will be moving over to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This is a big move for a sophmore congressman. Remember, Welch supported Rep. Henry Waxman's bid in November to oust longtime chairman Rep. John Dingell.
- Welch was also sworn in for his second term today.
- VPB Chief Louis Porter tracked down Sen. Doug Racine yesterday, who confirmed that he will be running for governor in 2010. A tip of the hat to Shay Totten at Seven Days, who appears to be the first reporter on Monday to get Racine to confirm.
- The new session of the Vermont Legislature starts Wednesday. Gov. James Douglas' staff will meet with reporters that morning to discuss his inaugural speech.
- Vermonters will get their own inaugural party in Washington, D.C. this month when President-elect Barack Obama takes office. Full details on that in tomorrow's Times Argus and Rutland Herald newspapers.
