How laws are made
Sen. Bernie Sanders is trying to make history today.
Sanders, a Vermont independent, introduced an ammendment to the health care reform bill today that would open up Medicare to all United States citizens - essentially a single-payer health care system.
But when the ammendment was introduced on the floor around noontime Wednesday, Senate Republicans refused to waive the rules of the chamber and are forcing clerks to read the entire ammendment on the floor before a vote is taken.
According to C-Span, the ammendment is 366 pages long. Sanders team tells me that the ammendment is actually 767 pages long.
It took about 20 minutes just to get through the table of contents.
