I was just on the phone with City Assessor Barry Keefe on an unrelated subject when he mentioned he'd gotten a call asking if Rutland Industries -- discussed in a story today regarding a noise complaint by one of its neighbors -- pays taxes.

General Manager Jessica Dennilson said during the meeting Monday that they did and Keefe confirmed it today.

"I don't know anything about the controversy, but I know they pay taxes, big time," he said.

Keefe put the company's annual property tax bill at $8,569.76.
