A co-worker, upon reading my post from Sunday (I was off yesterday, and I assume you all managed without an update) quipped that what we need is not a food fest but a beer fest.
He was being sarcastic, but it got me thinking. I can understand why some in the the city would be hesitant to try capitalizing on our reputation of having the most bars per-capita in the U.S., but since we have it, wouldn't it make sense to hold some sort of bartender Olympics?
Why yes, I did recently stumble across "Cocktail" while channel surfing. Alas, while I haven't been out that much in the last couple years, I can't say I've ever seen any bartender in this area doing those sorts of booze-bottle gymnastics. Come to think of it, I've never been in any bar where that was going on.
A mixology competition might be more practical. I can't say I've ever heard anyone raving about a must-try cocktail anywhere around here, but I'm sure at least a few of our local bartenders could summon some creativity.
Hmmm..was he being sarcastic or driven to drink by his/her coworkers???
