As I worked my way through the Poultney Chili Cookoff yesterday, I started to wonder why none of the county's big food events are in Rutland.
Rutland's chili cook-off, eventually canceled for non-participation, never matched Poultney's in size. The grilling competition the Downtown Partnership once organized also fizzled for some reason.
I don't count Winter in August because it does not seem to draw from nearly as far and wide as Taste of Killington, the Tinmouth Game Supper or the Poultney Chili Cookoff. I'm also not counting the event formerly known as the Ethnic Fest because, as I mentioned here once before, it's basically another week of Friday Night Live at this point.
I guess an argument could be made to count Friday Night Live, anyway, but it's not really what I have in mind.
It would seem like we ought to be able to manage a good-size barbecue competition, like the one at the Harpoon Brewery, or something similar at the fairgrounds. I'd go.
