The Public Safety Committee will discuss whether the city needs to ban medical marijuana dispensaries tonight. The aldermen say they want to have a "mature discussion," so I'd best get this out of my system now.
Let me be blunt -- I'm expecting a thorough discussion, so the city avoids the sort of half-baked ideas that would turn this into a chronic issue.
The big argument against dispensaries is going to be the claim that any neighborhood hosting one will go to pot. I would think a joint effort between law enforcement and the dispensary itself could nip any problems in the bud.
Should Public Safety decide they want to weed out any potential dispensaries, the issue will then be reefered to Charter and Ordinance, which will have to hash out any exclusionary measures.
Gordon, if you do not begin to take a more serious approach to this important issue then I'm afraid your journalistic reputation may go up in smoke.
