Hospital chief Tom Huebner made a point Monday of thanking Rep. Peter Fagan, R-Rutland, and the rest of the Rutland delegation for their help clearing up the tax bill at the Gables, which is part-owned by RRMC.
"Frankly, it went away because the Rutland delegation was putting pressure on the tax commissioner, along with about 150 88-year-olds who were writing letters every day," he said during the legislative breakfast.
Rep. Peg Andrews, D-Rutland, said the letter-writing didn't stop when the state let the Gables off the hook. She said she had a thank-you note from a constituent in her mailbox "before the ink was dry" on the abatement order Friday.
