City Treasurer Wendy Wilton told the Board of Aldermen that Rutland just received its first unqualified auditor's report in 32 years.
"When I sought the office of City Treasurer in 2007 -- it's hard to believe it was five years ago -- I promised the city residents that we would be compliant with government accounting standards, we could provide timely financial reports, and we would achieve an unqualified opinion," she said, reading from a prepared statement. "These goals have now been accomplished."
Wilton noted the city still has work to do, particularly with the pension fund.
Wilton said the city received adverse opinions from 2003 to 2008 and qualified opinions in the years since.
A full story will appear in Thursday's Rutland Herald.
