Did you see the news about the transportation bill coming out of Congress with $464 million for Vermont and wonder if there was anything in there for the Western rail corridor?
I did, and one of the handy things about getting press releases from Sen. Sanders' office is I can just hit "reply," type "Anything for the Western rail corridor?" and then hit "send."
The answer I got was no, but that there wasn't supposed to be anyway. For reasons understood only by Washington bureaucrats, intercity rail and Amtrak are not part of "surface transportation" and are instead funded through the "annual appropriations process."
So, we'll have to wait to see how much closer the next budget cycle gets the train to Burlington.
